How Solar Works

GENERATION

Solar Irrandiance is captured by the Solar Pv panels and DC power is created. This DC power is either sent to the battery and stored for later or it is inverted to AC power and sent to the property to be used. The newly inverted AC power takes priority over the grid supply. Once the DC battery is full and the property no longer requires power, the remaining surplus power is automatically exported to the grid.

MONITORING

Using online morning apps, you will be able to see the system production and performance in real time.  Solaredge customer will also benefit form seeing panel level monitoring of each individual panels. Choosing quality brands such as Solaredge means that we will also have access to be able to monitor your Pv System.

We also have the option to dial in to the inverter to check for issues and faults if they occur.

BATTERY STORAGE (TOU)

Our systems allow you the flexibility to choose how you use the battery and solar power.  Some customer prefer to charge their battery during off peak times whereas others choose to set their battery to "Do Not Discharge". In both scenarios, we can help you with the correct Time of Use (TOU) profile to suite you.

System Types

Typically there are two different types of technologies with Solar Pv.

Traditional String Systems - Traditional string solar pv systems are wired in series like old Christmas tree lights. Most traditional inverters have just two MPPTs (Solar Inputs). The advantage of this type of system is that it can be installed quickly and is the cheapest way to install Solar Pv. A traditional string system is ideal for customers with a tighter budget. When installing traditional string system we only use the very best manufactures in this category such as the MyEnergi Libbi and GivEnergy.

Optimised Solaredge Systems - Unike a traditional string system, the Solaredge optimised system uses small individual MPPT optimisers under each panel which now turns the system into a parallel system. These optimisers allow each panel to work to their most efficient output meaning that you can expect to generate around 10% more per annum compared to a standard string system.  In addition to this, you are now also able to panel level monitor each individual panel through the Solaredge mobile app.  Solaredge in our opinion is the market leader in terms of being technically more advance.  Some of the features from solaredge are not just generation related but also safety related.

SEG (smart export guarenee)

Following the closure of the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme to new applicants in March 2019, the government recognised the need to pay small-scale renewable energy generators for the electricity they export to the grid. Consequently, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) introduced the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).

SEG tariffs can be fixed or variable. A fixed SEG tariff will pay a determined rate per kWh of electricity exported over the length of the contract. A variable SEG tariff will vary the price based on market demand, with the only requisite that prices never fall below zero.
